Our Story

The Pines Training Centre was established by the The Sothern Cross Institute* in 1997. We’re named after the pine trees mentioned in Isaiah 41:19 “I will set Pines in the wasteland … so that people may see and know that the hand of the Lord has done this”

We aim to extend the Kingdom of God across Australia and the world by training leaders and team workers who think in contemporary ways, exhibit Godly character, demonstrate practical ministry skills for the purpose of establishing culturally relevant ministries and churches.

We have a heart to see new churches planted all over the world. Professor C. Peter Wagner said, ‘The most effective way to evangelise a community is to plant new churches on new ground and old ground’. So far, we have trained church planters who are bringing in the harvest in Australia, Thailand, Myanmar and the Solomon Islands.

We call our church planting strategy replicate – we want to replicate the DNA for evangelism and the planting of new churches found in existing missional churches. To do this, we identify missional churches, identify and train mission strategists, identify and train church planters, assist in the placement of graduate volunteers to gain church plant experience, identify areas of need for the Gospel and the workers required, and build a network for after-care training and support for planters.

We’re committed to being a praying community. We value transformation above transference of information. We teach life-long learning habits with a balanced emphasis on “being”, “doing” and “knowing”.
* The Five Star Vision of the Southern Cross Institute is to advance the Kingdom of God in Australia and beyond through revival, training, evangelism, church planting and the media.
